Elevator 2019

In this performance I was thinking about how through carrying out an instruction in the context of an art-work, I might alter what I was doing whilst carrying out the instruction. These alterations to the rule, the rule being in this case to ‘travel up and down an elevator’, I felt would bring about more raw reactions and interests in my surroundings, as I am, kind of like a ‘hook’ in theatre productions, comforted to ‘improvise’ by the underbelly of my own authority. As a result of this, I carry out this task, and then begin listening through people’s doors in this apartment building. All incomprehensible, the sounds and silences of each apartment effect the meaning of my presence in the space.
